Gators coach Will Muschamp says Treon Harris will start on November 1st

Ralph D. Russo of the Associated Press reported that Florida will start freshman Treon Harris at quarterback against the Georgia Bulldogs in Jacksonville on November 1st.

The Florida offense has been nothing short of God-awful again this season. QB Jeff Driskel has a lot to do with that. The much-maligned junior has turned the ball over 12 times in the last four games, despite sharing time with Harris in two of those games, and Skyler Mornhinweg in the other.

The final straw came in Saturday’s loss to Missouri. The Florida defense held Missouri to just 119 yards on offense, but six turnovers by the Florida offense, including four by Driskel, led to the Gators getting blown out at home.

2014 has been so bad for Driskel that he has already thrown 10 interceptions on the season which matches his total from his first three years combined. That doesn’t even take into account the fumbles that he has lost. Overall, Driskel is just 97-183 for 928 yards with six touchdowns and ten interceptions.

So Muschamp decided to make the switch to Treon Harris, who has fared marginally better this year. Harris has completed 12 of his 18 passes this year for 263 yards and three touchdowns to go with the one interception that he threw last week. He has also ran the ball 15 times for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Harris played well in garbage time against Eastern Michigan in the opener, and fueled to fourth quarter drives resulting in the ten points that Florida needed to beat Tennessee. He sat out against LSU because of a sexual assault allegation that was dropped.

Now the question is: can Harris save Will Muchamp’s job?
