The Orlando Magic had a couple of major goal this offseason, chief among them working out contract extensions with center Nikola Vucevic and forward Tobias, the team’s two best players.

Teams have until Oct. 31 to work out extensions with players set to enter their fourth NBA season.

On Tuesday, the Magic and Nikola Vucevic worked out a four-year deal worth between $53 and $54 million (one report suggests it is a four-year, $48 million deal with incentives that could bump it to $53 million).

Tobias Harris was very happy for his teammate and is still hopeful to get his own deal done soon. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Magic and Tobias Harris will continue to work on a deal but there is a “significant gap there.”

The Magic ponied up a lot of money for Nikola Vucevic. It’s a lot of money for a guy who’s struggled on the defensive end but he has shown the ability to score and is developing into one of the better rebounders in the league. They are obviously banking on his continued development. It will be interesting to see if they do the same with Tobias Harris, who any expect to flourish with the Magic’s leading scorer from the 2013-2014 season, guard Arron Afflalo, now with the Denver Nuggets.

Last season, Tobias Harris averaged 14.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 46.4% from the field, 25.4% from beyond the arc and 80.7% from the foul line.
