The Orlando Magic were disappointed when they wound up with the No.2 overall pick after having the league’s worst record. However, after the
selected former UNLV Runnin’ Rebels forward Anthony Bennett, the Magic got the top prospect on their board, former
‘ guard Victor Oladipo.
Like most rookies, Victor Oladipo had an up-and-down first season. He was in and out of the starting lineup due to various injuries to the Magic’s starters, shooting guard Arron Afflalo and point guard Jameer Nelson.
With Arron Afflalo back with the Denver Nuggets and Jameer Nelson playing for the Dallas Mavericks, it will be Victor Oladipo’s time to shine and many believe he is in for a big season.
“Victor Oladipo will make a big jump this year,” writes Mary Stevens of Basketball Insiders. “He is no longer coming off the bench behind Jameer Nelson or Arron Afflalo. This will help with his minutes and taking charge of the team. Several of his teammates have told me that Victor is ready to lead and they are ready to follow. Andrew Nicholson is consistently working on his strengths and is ready when his number is called. As far as Jacque Vaughn goes, he will need to prove that he can take their young talented players to the next level. He has does a good job at easing the young players into the league but if he doesn’t show some results soon he will be out the door.”
Victor Oladipo probably has the most potential of any Magic player so his development is one of the keys to their future.
Victor Oladipo averaged 13.8 points, 4.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41.9% from the field, 32.7% from beyond the arc and 78.0% from the charity stripe in his first NBA season.
