Maddy’s second knee surgery in two months will cause him to miss the remainder of the 2014 season

Maddy tore the meniscus in his right knee during the Hokie’s September 13th loss to East Carolina. He did play 48 snaps the following week in the loss to Georgia Tech. He and the team then decided that he would need surgery.
His initial targeted return was for this week when the Hokies face off with the Miami Hurricanes at Lane Stadium on Thursday night.
Maddy was not progressing as hoped after his injury, and he decided on Wednesday to have another procedure to completely fix the knee. This will require him to miss the rest of the 2014 season, and take a medical hardship.
Maddy does still have his redshirt season avaiable. He started the first 43 games of his career at Virginia Tech before missing the game against Western Michigan on September 27th. He will require a four to six month recovery time after his second surgery, but Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer expects him to be at full strength in time for the 2015 opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Lane Stadium.
In four games this year, Maddy recorded nine tackles, including four solo tackles.
With the Hokies sitting with a disppointing 4-3 record, it makes sense to get Maddy completely healthy for 2015. This was a team that was bumped up to the top of the ACC Coastal after a road win over Ohio State, but they have fallen apart since.
