Robert Griffin III is taking on a larger workload at practice and could start Monday night when the Washington Redskins go to Dallas.

Robert Griffin III appears to be nearing a return to the field for the Washington Redskins.

According to Tarik El-Bashir of Comcast Sportsnet Washington, Griffin participated in individual drills wearing what appeared to be a hinged ankle brace.

He was taking snaps in shotgun and conventional formations, handing off and throwing short, intermediate and long passes. He split the bulk of the reps with Colt McCoy.

Griffin has been out since Week 2 with a dislocated ankle. Kirk Cousins has started the five games since, but was benched during Sunday’s win over the Titans in favor of McCoy.

After practice El-Bashir reported that coach Jay Gruden wants to make a final decision about who will play when the Redskins visit Dallas on Monday night by the end of practice on Thursday.

Griffin’s status will be an all-or-nothing decision:

Griffin was 31-for-40 for 305 yards before he was hurt in the first quarter against Jacksonville on Sept. 14.

Cousins made five starts, with the Redskins going 1-4 in those games. He has completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,710 yards and 10 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

He was 10-for-16 with a pick Sunday against Tennessee and the Redskins trailed 10-6 at halftime. McCoy came in for the second half and rallied Washington to a 19-17 win.

McCoy had not played since a mop-up assignment for the 49ers last December, but was 11-for-12 for 128 yards and a touchdown against the Titans.

McCoy will start against the Cowboys unless Griffin is declared good to go. McCoy’s last start came on Dec. 8, 2011, when he was with the Browns.
