Redshirt freshman TE Elijah Wellman charged with disorderly conduct after Saturday‘s win

West Virginia fans celebrated Saturday’s 41-27 home win over fourth ranked Baylor the way that you celebrate every big win: by wreaking havoc on the town. While Ole Miss fans just stormed the field and took the goalposts for a stroll around town, West Virginia fans took it a step further. They started some 39 fires and there were 126 incidents requiring public safety response. Not to mention the 114 911-Emergency calls that were made. Three police cruisers, two fire marshal vehicles, three West Virginia University patrol cars, one country patrol car, and one patrol car from a nearby town were all damaged by rocks and beer bottles, among other things. The rioting crowd also caused damage to a fire engine!

Nothing like acting like you’ve been there before!

When the smoke cleared sometime on Sunday morning, a total of 19 people had been arrested. Among those was Mountaineer redshirt freshman tight end Elijah Wellman. Wellman was charged with disorderly conduct, which is minor compared to everything else that went on.

Chances are coach Dana Holgorsen will not feel the same way. He has not made a public comment yet, but you can bet that he will not be happy.

Morgantown police are still assessing the damage. Two street lamps were knocked over, several road signs were stolen, and several streets have heat damage from the 32 fires that were started on them by rioting fans. The department is also watching security footage and patrolling social media for individuals caught engaging in illegal activity. The arrest count is not done rising just yet.

Luckily the town of Morgantown will get a weekend off with the Mountaineers visiting Oklahoma State this weekend.
