Pablo Sandoval came through in two separate at-bats by driving in runs for the San Francisco Giants in Game 1 of the 2014 World Series.

When the San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers in the 2012 World Series, third baseman Pablo Sandoval was the series MVP. It looks like Sandoval is making an early case for the MVP of the 2014 World Series if his Giants turn their Game 1 victory into another world championship.

Sandoval will have some competition from Hunter Pence, if Game 1 is any indication. There is a long way to go, of course, and the Royals still have plenty of time to get back in the series.

The Giants’ third baseman came through with an RBI double and an RBI single in this game. Here is the single, which drove in the seventh run to punctuate the blowout victory.

The narrative that the “Giants just know how to win in October” can be exhausting. Even if this is the third time in the last five years that the Giants have been in the World Series, it still gets old to hear about it.

Then again, when Pence and Sandoval and the rest of the Giants’ lineup continue to come through in key spots like they did on Tuesday night, it’s hard to argue with the theory.

Whatever it is about this time of year, it seems like the Giants just know how to get the job done in the postseason. The Royals will have to get things turned around in a hurry for Game 2 if they are going to stand in San Francisco’s way.
