The Denver Broncos went on a spending spree this past offseason but did that hinder their chances of bringing back Peyton Manning’s top two receiving targets?
Peyton Manning loves to throw the ball to both Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas but the spending spree that the Broncos went on in the spring of 2014 may have hindered their chances of working out new deals with one or both of their best receivers. Both players are in line for new deals this year but the Broncos are going to take their time to sort out the finances of bringing back both receivers.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos are not expected to work out new deals for either Demaryius Thomas or Julius Thomas during the season. Instead, the team will wait until the offseason to get deals done.
Denver does not expect to re-sign free-agents-to-be, WR Demaryius Thomas and TE Julius Thomas, during season; will wait until after season.

Both Thomas’ have played their way into huge new deals on the horizon, but the Broncos will need time to figure out how to make it all work. They splurged in the offseason this past year by handing out big contracts to the likes of Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware, T.J. Ward and Emmanuel Sanders.
At the time, critics noted that the Broncos were cash strapping themselves and that they wouldn’t be able to bring back big name players in the future. Eric Decker and Knowshon Moreno were casualties last offseason to the spending spree and seeing one or both of the Broncos top receivers this year exit would be a travesty.
It won’t happen — let’s be clear about that — but it’s going to be tricky front office work to bring both players back and we may see other big names on the team leave as a result.
