New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith had some stern words about new wide receiver Percy Harvin, claiming that the Jets offense will not revolve around him.
Of course the New York Jets offense shouldn’t revolve around one person, but quarterback Geno Smith felt the need to make that very clear Wednesday when talking about the latest addition to the Jets, Percy Harvin.

Percy Harvin is a small, quick receiver who can beat you with speed on screens or the deep ball. He can also run the ball and well.
“This isn’t video games,” Smith told reporters. “We’ve got to go out and play football. I do understand what he can bring to the table and I expect him to make great plays — don’t get that misunderstood — but we’ve got to play football.
“We’ve got [Eric] Decker, we’ve got [Jeremy] Kerley, we’ve got Jace [Amaro], we’ve got Jeff [Cumberland]. We’ve got a bunch of guys and we’ve got to get the ball into their hands. We’re putting together a game plan for the Buffalo Bills. It’s not based on one or two players.”
Geno Smith clearly does not want anyone to get the wrong impression and think this is now Percy Harvin’s team. But maybe Geno should give Percy Harvin the whole team just to see if he can change the fact that the 1-6 Jets rank 26th in total offense.
According to head coach Rex Ryan, for Percy Harvin, it’s “unrealistic” to expect him to play most of the snaps on offense. Ryan said it will take time before Harvin gets comfortable with the playbook. He will return kickoffs and possibly punts, according to the coach.
The Jets acquired Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks after Seattle felt the need to trade him away after constant locker room problems like getting in fights with fellow receiver, as well as on the field issues including when he checked himself out of the Seahawks Cowboys game two weeks ago in the fourth quarter.
It’ll be interesting to see how Percy Harvin fits in with the struggling New York Jets this season, and we’ll see if he can do anything to turn it around, even if Geno Smith doesn’t want him to.
