Colt McCoy will be the Redskins’ signal caller against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.

While some were holding out hope that Robert Griffin III would be returning from injury this week, Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Thursday that Colt McCoy will start for the team Monday versus the Dallas Cowboys.

From ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

This isn’t much of surprise. There were already many signs Griffin III wouldn’t be playing this week, such as Gruden discussing the quarterback possibly playing three weeks from now against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday, according to Pro Football Talk.

"“I would guarantee Tampa, most likely, unless something happens between now and then,” Gruden told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday.  “You’ve got a good bye week, you’ve got a couple weeks to make sure it’s ready.  Obviously Robert is a quick healer.  He works extremely hard in the training room.  So the process could be sped up a little bit depending on how he feels.”"

For now, the Redskins are rolling with McCoy, who led the team to a victory this past Sunday versus the Tennessee Titans. McCoy was 11-12 for 128 yards and a touchdown in the 19-17 win.

It’s worth noting that McCoy’s numbers are a bit skewed, considering he threw a pass about eight yards downfield that receiver Pierre Garcon turned into a 70-yard touchdown.

It’s not as if McCoy lit it up against the Titans and him starting Monday against Dallas seems to be more about Griffin’s lack of health and fellow quarterback Kirk Cousins playing terribly this season.

The Cleveland Browns selected McCoy in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
