  • Dealing with back issues his entire NBA career (they’re the reason Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban moved on from the point guard), they began to greatly affect Nash upon arrival to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012 when he joined Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Dwight Howard in hopes to secure a NBA championship. In two seasons in LA, Nash appeared in 65 combined games, with an assortment of injuries affecting his ability to stay on the floor.

Most recently, as Nash prepared of the upcoming season, Nash was hindered by a back injury which was collected while lifting luggage, ultimately forcing him out of the preseason.

With Steve Nash out, head coach Byron Scott may look to Jeremy Lin or training camp signee Ronnie Price to fill in Nash’s role in the starting lineup.

If this is truly the end of Steve Nash’s lengthy career, he’ll be remembered as one of the best point guards in league history. In an 18 year career, Nash averaged 14.3 points on 45 percent shooting and 8.5 assists per game as a member of the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Prior to joining the Los Angeles Lakers, Nash strung off eight seasons in which he lead the league in assists, ultimately finishing third all-time in career assists at 10,335 behind Hall of Famer John Stockton (15,806) and current Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd (12,091).

Nash was also the recipient of two Most Valuable Player awards (2004, 2005).
