Miami Dolphins Happy With Ryan Tannehill At QB
By Cory Buck
Ryan Tannehill has taken off in the weeks since Joe Philbin refused to name him the starter heading into the Miami Dolphins game at Oakland.
It’s hard to believe that we’re less than a month removed from a time when Ryan Tannehill didn’t have a firm hold on the QB1 slot with the Miami Dolphins. Tannehill had struggled in back-to-back games against the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, prompting head coach Joe Philbin to remain mum on his status in that week after the KC game and before the team’s road tilt against the Oakland Raiders. After three solid starts, all of that seems like a distant memory in Miami.

The Miami Herald notes that, “Since the quarterback ‘controversy’, Tannehill has completed 72 percent of his passes for 799 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. His passer rating for the season is now over 85 — and climbing.”
He’s also been deadly effective with his legs, running for the two longest plays from scrimmage for the offense this season. To his credit, Tannehill hardly seemed phased by the success.
“I’m just glad we’re playing good football, myself and the team,” Tannehill told the Herald. “You want to improve every week, and you know I think we’ve done that. Sometimes it’s been obvious, sometimes not so obvious. But I think we’re improving consistently, and that’s what you want is guys getting more comfortable on the field, myself included, and things start clicking.”
Philbin agreed with Tannehill’s assessment, noting that adaptation was always the key.
“Inevitably, if you are in the game long enough or you walk on the planet long enough, you are going to have things happen to you that maybe you didn’t plan on happening, didn’t want to have happen, and you have to deal with them,” Philbin said. “I think that happens, and that is part of the maturation of all of us I think at various points in time.”
