The Oakland Raiders would like to get their running game going in the weeks to come in the NFL season, and they would like to get Maurice Jones-Drew more carries in order to do so.

More from Las Vegas Raiders

The Oakland Raiders signed a bunch of veteran players this off-season, such as is their usual practice. One such veteran was running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Perhaps he would not be able to take on a full workload, but it certainly seemed that the longtime Jaguar could bring value to the Raiders by taking some of the pressure off the oft-injured Darren McFadden.

That plan has been derailed by some injury troubles for Jones-Drew, however. In limited action the veteran has been ineffective, but in the weeks to come the Raiders would like to get him more carries in the interest of trying to jump-start his season.

According to Bill Williamson of ESPN, interim head coach Tony Sparano said that the plan is to get more touches for Maurice Jones-Drew:

Jones-Drew has yet to have more than 10 carries in a single game this season. This past week he had just three carries for six yards. In total this season, Jones-Drew has a measly 48 yards on 18 carries.

The bar is pretty low as far as improvement is concerned, and the Raiders will hope to see more signs of a healthy Jones-Drew with a bigger workload in their next few games.
