Washington Wizards forward and former Boston Celtics great and short time Brooklyn Net Paul Pierce opened up Wednesday about how he was surprised about the whole situation with the Nets in the NBA offseason.

It just happened that the huge deal that took Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett away from Boston to play at Brooklyn failed expectations and the Brooklyn Nets decided not to resign Paul Pierce. Something that very much blindsided Paul Pierce.

After Jason Kidd packed his bags and left for Milwaukee after being offered a cushy new deal, Kidd left his former team (sort of, wrong city) Paul Pierce found himself leaving to, to Washington to team up with John Wall and Bradley Beal.

“I definitely didn’t see all that coming,” Pierce told reporters. “I think it all started probably with Jason leaving, it’s kind of like a domino from there. I was a little disappointed, because I thought I was going to come back there and Jason was one of the main reasons I came to Brooklyn, him and Kevin.”

Paul Pierce averaged 28 minutes and 13.5 points per game with the Nets last season and appears to have come to a better team now with the Wizards who among a couple of stud guards also have players like Nene, Marcin Gortat, Otto Porter and Kris Humphries. Pierce will undoubtedly assume a veteran leadership role right away, and says what happened in the past between the Nets and himself was business as usual.

“I understand it’s a business,” Pierce said. “I was a little surprised, but you’ve got to be ready for the business side of it and understand that part. So it didn’t shock me. No hard feelings, I understand their situation, they understand mine, and both parties moved on.”

Quite frankly, Paul Pierce should be happy he’s out of that situation in Brooklyn and now with a much more young, talented team that still has a couple of veterans like himself. Look for the Wizards to shine in the Eastern Conference this year and possibly make a late playoff push.
