The Brooklyn Nets are discussing a trade that would send guard Marquis Teague to the Philadelphia 76ers that would move him between Atlantic Division teams.

Just 21, Teague has yet to establish any traction since being selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 29th overall pick of the 2012 draft after leaving the University of Kentucky after just one season with the Wildcats. He has appeared in just 88 games in two seasons with the Bulls and Nets, averaging just 2.3 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.4 assists per game.

Teague has played in three preseason games this month, scoring 14 points in 41 minutes of work.

Brooklyn is not expected to receive much if the trade is finalized.

A move to the 76ers could provide Teague his best chance to find significant playing time. Philadelphia is in the midst of a major rebuilding project, as the club has been constantly tinkering with its search in acquiring younger talent that would be a part of the franchise’s next successful run. Teague could end up as a backup point guard behind starter Michael Carter-Williams, who has also been the subject of trade rumors during the offseason and training camp.

Carter-Williams has missed much of the preseason with a shoulder injury, leaving the point guard duties to veteran swingman Elliot Williams, third-year combo guard Tony Wroten and second-year pro Casper Ware.

Philadelphia opens the 2013-14 regular season at Indiana on Wednesday night.
