The San Diego Chargers logged one of their best wins during the 2013 NFL season by beating the Denver Broncos on the road on Thursday Night Football. They entered their 2014 week 8 game on Thursday night trying to do the same, but Peyton Manning and the Broncos had other plans.
Down 28-7 and trying to stay within reach in the third quarter, Philip Rivers and the Chargers pieced together a long drive. They got some help from the Broncos’ defense with penalties, especially down in the red zone. Even still, the Chargers were forced to go for it on fourth and goal to try and get points.
In that key spot and trying to keep the Chargers’ hopes alive, Rivers went to a familiar target. Somehow the Broncos let Antonio Gates get free, and Rivers found him for the touchdown to make the score 28-14.

Earlier in this game, Gates continued his assault on the record books by becoming the all-time leader in Chargers’ franchise history in receiving yards. He and the Chargers will try to mount a dramatic comeback in this key AFC West game.
