It’s been no big secret recently that the SMU Mustangs would like to bring former Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown in as their next head coach, and now they’re apparently set to break the bank to make it happen.
According to a report from Bill Nicholls at the Dallas Morning News, the school is reportedly set to open up the checkbook for Brown’s services to the tune of $32 million over eight years.
"Thus, it’s not shocking that SMU officials have already had preliminary discussions with former Texas coach Mack Brown, floating $4 million annually over eight years, sources say. Brown, 63, fits the Larry Brown model — a national championship winner who can land star prospects on name alone."
As if we didn’t know that SMU is all on in recruiting Brown to their program to take things over, we are certainly aware of that now.
At 63-years-old, you do have to ask yourself whether or not Brown would be willing to take on such a project as SMU is. However, if you look at the basketball program and what Larry Brown has done in making them competitive, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Earlier this season June Jones resigned from the position of head coach after six full years with the Mustangs. All things considered, Jones did show that this program could be competitive once again, even leading them to bowl game appearances.
Could Brown be the one to get this program completely over the hump?
