Philadelphia 76ers Not Done In Free Agency?
By Ed Carroll
The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t hiding that their team will be bad this upcoming NBA season, but coach Brett Brown said the team will continue to scour free agency and the waiver wire for talent.
The Philadelphia 76ers got a win yesterday, when the NBA Board of Governors voted against reforming the NBA Draft Lottery, which could have seriously hindered the 76ers’ fairly-blatant rebuilding plan, but surprisingly, head coach Brett Brown said the team isn’t done looking for talent quite yet:

This is slightly surprising, given that the 76ers have been on a firm rebuilding plan for the past two seasons, using high draft picks on intriguing and talented but injured young big men Nerleans Noel (who is expected to play this season) and Joel Embiid (the number three overall pick this draft who is expected to miss the season with an injury), and are effectively fielding an NBA D-League roster on any given night. It’s a plan that GM Sam Hinkie hopes will net Philly another high lottery pick to pair with his promising two baby big men, and the lotto reform could have seriously damaged those chances.
While it seems that signing a waived player might hurt the 76ers chances at tanking, it’s more expected for Philly to gamble on a young athletic player who could blossom with unhindered playing time, such as the Denver Nuggets‘ Quincy Miller, a third-year small forward who could be released by Denver. A player like Miller wouldn’t necessarily guarantee the 76ers any wins nor tie them to any major salary obligations, but has enough potential upside to possibly allow Philly to find a diamond in the rough, or at least give 76ers fans an entertaining player to root for while they wait on the plan.
