New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had little to say about the reported tardiness of cornerback Darrelle Revis, instead deferring to Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.
Few NFL coaches can use a paragraph’s worth of words to say absolutely nothing like Bill Belichick can. When coaches told Darrelle Revis to stay home when Revis called from home on Tuesday to say he slept in and would be late, the media predictably got zero updates on the matter from Belichick. Instead, the head coach was all ears for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

“Anything between me and the players,” Belichick said per CSNNE, “is between myself and the players.” That’s about the comment you’d expect from ol’ Bill when asked about Revis’ absence from Tuesday’s practice. Belichick offered no clarification on the incident itself and when he was asked how these alleged events might affect Sunday’s playing time, he was of course mum.
“I’m ready to talk about the Bears,” Belichick said. “Anything else is between myself and the players.”
You want to think that’s all Bill would say, but he likes to tease reporters so he went ahead and gave them another sweet line of copy. “I think the Bears are really a good team,” he said. “I think they’re going to be a tough matchup for us. We’re going to do the best we can to match up against them.”
Easy now, loose lips. You mean you’re going to praise the team you’re about to smash? That’s so unlike you, Bill. Oh wait, that’s exactly what every Friday press conference sounds like with Bill Belichick.
Expect Revis to pay in some secret way we’ll never hear about, but also expect him to play every meaningful snap for the Patriots as they take on the high-flying Chicago Bears offense.
