The Houston Rockets have claimed small forward Earl Clark off waivers.

Looking to add depth to their wings core, the Houston Rockets have claimed small forward Earl Clark off waivers.

Recently released by the Memphis Grizzlies who signed Clark to a training-camp deal, Clark is now on his eighth team since 2009.

More from Houston Rockets

Following a solid season with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012-13, it was assumed Clark would become a solid role player in the coming year. Under Mike D’Antoni, Clark averaged a career-high 7.3 points on 44 percent shooting, but things didn’t pan out the following season when Clark found himself a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers under Mike Brown.

Not living up to the deal signed in the 2013 off-season, the Cavaliers traded Clark to the Philadelphia 76ers where he was later waived.

Now a member of the Houston Rockets, short depth could lead to Clark being a rotation player. Playing alongside James Harden and Dwight Howard, Clark, if given minutes, will receive many opportunities to impact the game — especially from behind the arch — and could be key to the teams march in the 2015 NBA playoffs.

Last season, splitting time between the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks, Clark averaged 4.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

To make space for Clark, the Houston Rockets waived forward Josh Powell.
