The Houston Rockets could make a run at Boston Celtics‘ point guard Rajon Rondo once the Celtics decide to trade him which most believe will happen before the NBA‘s trade deadline

Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo doesn’t appear to want to be any part of a rebuilding process but that’s exactly what’s happening right now.

When the Celtics traded swingman Paul Pierce and big man Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets last year, it signaled the end of an era. Rajon Rondo had been in the playoffs every year since his second in the league when he was drafted with the 21st-overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft. In fact, Rajon Rondo and the Celtics won a title in his second year after trading for Garnett and Ray Allen. That has led many to believe it is time for the Celtics to deal Rajon Rondo (and there have been reports that he has asked the Celtics for a trade).

John Zitzler of Basketball Insiders believes it is “pretty clear that its best him and the Celtics to part ways.”

As for who make a run at Rajon Rondo, the Houston Rockets may be a good candidate.

“I could see Houston trying to work out a deal for Rondo,” writes Zitzler. “They have some young talent that may interest the Celtics and he would fit in nicely with the Rockets as they look to contend in the West.”

The Rockets desperately wanted to add a third star to their team this offseason, chasing New York Knicks‘ forward Carmelo Anthony and Miami Heat big man Chris Bosh but failed to land either.

Rajon Rondo returned from a knee injury he suffered in the 2012-2013 season. He averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line last season.
