Chicago Cubs fans are glued to the Joe Maddon situation as the free agent manager is a front runner to land in the Windy City.

The Chicago Cubs have a manger already but no one really knows who he is. That’s incredibly unfair to Rick Renteria, who is still fresh in the job, but you have to admit that you needed to Google his name to know even what he looked like.

As superficial as it sounds, that element of being unknown is killing the Cubs and rendering a historic franchise irrelevant. that’s why so many are now suddenly leaning on the possibility of hiring Joe Maddon to lead the club.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Cubs appear to be the front runners to land Maddon and that has something to do with Maddon wanting to link up with the team more than it does the other way around.

"Multiple sources close to Maddon and the Cubs suggest the Cubs could be a front-runner for the services of a guy who became the top free agent manager – by far – when he exercised an opt-out clause in his contract in the wake of general manager Andrew Friedman’s departure to the Los Angeles Dodgers."

Additionally, it appears that Maddon has either told or made it known to those around him that he wants the job with the Chicago Cubs.

"“I know he wants it bad,” one former player who has a relationship with Maddon said of a possible hiring by the Cubs."

It’s hard to say where Maddon will land, as there are about three or four different places he could go. From either of the Los Angeles teams to New York and possibly even Minnesota, the options for Maddon are endless and Chicago is hardly his only choice.
