Oakland Athletics slugger Brandon Moss had surgery on Thursday on his right hip and a torn labrum, fixing an issue that bothered him for much of the second half of the MLB season.

Oakland A’s outfielder Brandon Moss had surgery on Thursday, and while Moss won’t be able to run for about 12 weeks, he should be ready in time for Opening Day, if not spring training:

The injuries limited to Moss to just 162 at bats after the beginning of August, and while most of the blame for the collapse of the A’s offense went to the trade of Yoenis Cespedes, Moss’s struggles likely had just as profound an impact on Oakland, as in the entire second half he slashed .173/.310/.274 with four home runs and six doubles in 179 at bats. Moss has never been the type of hitter to post a high batting average, but those numbers are a far cry from Moss’s performance in the first half, when he had 21 home runs and 17 doubles, and it’s likely the injury was a huge factor in his decline.

He’s expected to be ready in time for Opening Day, good news for Oakland, who will likely lose ace Jon Lester and fellow free-agent left-hander Jason Hammel in free agency this winter.
