Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon opted out of his contract with the team on Friday, sending some shockwaves throughout the Major League Baseball World on the day of Game 3 of the World Series. Maddon ends a very successful nine-year run with the Rays that included a trip to the World Series.
With this news, much speculation has risen about whether or not he could be heading out west to take over the Los Angeles Dodgers soon, joining new President of Baseball Operations, Andrew Friedman, who just left the Rays organization to take the job out in Los Angeles.
As of right now, though, Fox’s Ken Rosenthal is pointing out that Maddon is indeed not interested in taking over the Dodgers and joining his friend Friedman in the pursuit of getting the Dodgers back to the World Series.
With the announcement coming just a few hours old at this point, it’s tough to tell whether or not Maddon really isn’t interested in the Dodgers job. You would have to assume that there is at least some bit of interest.
But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for one of the most successful managers of the last decade.
