San Diego Chargers safety Jahleel Addae was caught on video potentially having a seizure after a routine hit on a running play.

The San Diego Chargers lost out on their chance to dethrone the Denver Broncos and regain some of their footing in the AFC West when they lost 35-21 in Denver on Thursday Night Football. The team might have a bigger concern though and it’s one that went largely unnoticed upon the first viewing of the game.

Safety Jahleel Addae took a huge hit on the first play of the game, which should have lined him up for a concussion test on the spot.

Instead, Addae remained in the game and later on was caught stutter-stepping on a Vine, but not in a fun, dancing way, after a routine run stop. As you can see below, Addae’s jerky, hesitant movements suggest that he possibly suffered a concussion on the play.

Addae immediately recoils after hitting the pile with his shoulder, sending a whiplash and light contact to the side of his head. That’s all it takes for him to straighten, stagger, then shake it off while standing motionless. This is the sort of thing we’ve come to expect as a product of football, but to see the subtle, tragic twitches of a guy’s brain failing him on the spot is harrowing. Even worse is knowing that this all could have been prevented by a more studious training staff.

Addae claimed he suffered a stinger, not a concussion, and that he was cleared to play after the injury. We’ll have to take his word for it, but that video still looks an awful lot like a man staggering lost and confused for a brief moment. Let’s hope the team does the right thing and sets Addae up with more extensive concussion tests.
