San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum had an MRI performed on his lower back and left side, and though the move was described as precautionary, Lincecum’s status for the World Series remains unclear.

San Francisco Giants reliever Tim Lincecum was removed from Game Two of the World Series on Tuesday with a strike remaining in the game, and the right-hander underwent an MRI yesterday on his troublesome back that has limited Lincecum to a sole appearance the entire MLB postseason.

that while the Giants haven’t released the results of the MRI, Lincecum was throwing a baseball shortly after the tests and San Francisco would unlikely allow Lincecum to do such a thing if there was structural damage in the MRI results.

Lincecum was terrific for the Giants in Game Two of the World Series, as his 1.2 perfect innings stopped the bleeding caused by a five-run sixth inning by the Kansas City Royals, though the Royals went on to win the game and even the series, 1-1. San Francisco hosts Game Three of the World Series tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern.
