Is the Green Bay Packers‘ Jordy Nelson one of the NFL’s elite wide receivers?

The Green Bay Packers’ offense has turned things around and is officially playing like the powerhouse offense that they were expected to be. One of the big reasons for that type of play has been star wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who has been opening eyes with his big performances.

According to Matt Bowen of Bleacher Report, the Packers’ wide receiver is a top-five NFL wide receiver.

"When I started this piece, I mentioned Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, Calvin Johnson and A.J. Green as some of the top names in the NFL at the wide receiver position. But after watching the tape on Nelson, and looking at his production, I have no problem saying he is a top-five talent at the position given his route-running ability, speed on the release and the catch radius to win at the top of the stem."

Nelson has caught 47 passes for 712 yards and six touchdowns so far this season, and has made some clutch plays already for the Packers. Aaron Rodgers has without a doubt been using his as his favorite target, and Nelson’s sure hands and route running ability have made it nearly impossible for defensive backs to stick with him.

There aren’t many fans out there that would name Nelson as a top-five NFL wide receiver, and he simply doesn’t come up in everyday conversations. It’s hard to deny his statistics and production that he puts up every week, and perhaps people will begin including him in their top five from this point forward.

Green Bay looks headed for the NFC playoffs, and they will need their offense to continue playing at this level. Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the game, but he needs both Randall Cobb and especially Nelson to continue playing at a high level. Nelson has been improving each and every season, and he is finally to an elite level and needs to be recognized as just that.

Expect to see Nelson continue putting up big numbers throughout the course of the remainder of the season.
