The NCAA is looking into potential violations within both the football and basketball programs at Syracuse University in a wide-ranging investigation.

Potential NCAA troubles aren’t just for the basketball program at Syracuse University. According to a report, the football program is also in the NCAA’s crosshairs.

Syracuse.com reported that the football team is also part of the investigation and could face penalties. The NCAA has been inquiring about potential violations within the basketball program for two years.

The school will appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions at the end of this month, which is a sign that the violations being alleged are considered severe or significant.

Current Orange football coach Scott Shafer said this week he cannot discuss the case, while former coach Doug Marrone—now head coach of the Buffalo Bills in the NFL—said he wasn’t invited to the hearing and knew nothing of any allegations of wrongdoing.

"“There’s nothing that I know about that we did that wasn’t either punished or put forth,” Marrone said. “One thing I did, if we made a mistake, an incidental contact or something, I just always reported it. It’s not worth it. This way I can sleep at night.”"

Marrone coached at Syracuse from 2009-12.

San Jose State defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Greg Robinson, the Orange head coach from 2005-08, did not respond to Syracuse.com’s request for comment.

The investigation was first reported in March 2013 by CBSSports.com, with the probe centering on former basketball player Fab Melo’s academic eligibility and an alleged sexual assault involving three players that supposedly occurred in 2007.

Syracuse has made no public comments on the investigation.
