After missing practice Friday with an illness, running back Shane Vereen was listed as questionable, but he was not among the inactives for the New England Patriots Sunday.
Running back Shane Vereen sat out practice on Friday because of an illness, but the
running back is up and, well, running for Sunday’ game at Gi
llette Stadium against the Chicago Bears.
Vereen played a big role in the Patriots’ 27-25 win over the New York Jets on Oct. 16, catching five passes for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also putting up 43 yards on 11 carries on the ground.
The versatile Vereen is second on the club with 259 rushing yards on 53 carries and is third with 33 targets and 23 receptions for 185 yards. He has three total touchdowns this season, tied with Brandon LaFell for second on the team.
Vereen’s role is expanded, however, with running back Stevan Ridley—who had 340 yards and two touchdowns in six games—out for the year with a knee injury.
The rushing total is already a career-high for the fourth-year pro out of California, who had 47 receptions last season for 427 yards and three touchdowns.
