Blue Jackets forward Nick Foligno was involved in an unfortunate collision with Kings forward Jeff Carter, which propelled Foligno headfirst into a linesman who was sitting on the boards to avoid a play. He went down, and after a couple of minutes was stretchered off the ice.
The hit wasn’t dirty, but reminded fans how easily things can go wrong during even the cleanest of physical plays in the game of hockey. Luckily for Foligno, it seems the 26-year-old will be fine; he gave fans a wave as he was carted off to the locker room, and Blue Jackets president John Davidson announced later that the left wing would be fine.
Foligno, who was a previous first-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, put up 18 goals and 21 assists for the Blue Jackets last season. This year, he has contributed an impressive 3 goals and 6 assists in only eight games played with the franchise. There is no confirmation as to when he will return to the team.
The team’s next matchup will be against Foligno’s former team, the Ottawa Senators, on Tuesday, Oct. 28th.
