The initial college football playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday and here’s how the top four are projected to shake out

In what is becoming a trend in this year’s college football season, another top-five team lost this weekend as the Ole Miss Rebels lost 10-7 to the LSU Tigers after a couple of regrettable decisions by head coach Hugh Freeze and quarterback Bo Wallace.

With the Rebels driving for a potential game-tying field goal, the Rebels got a delay of game penalty as they set up for a 42-yard field goal and after the penalty, Freeze brought the offense back on the field for a play to get a shorter field goal opportunity.

Wallace threw an interception to end the game the Rebels never got the opportunity to kick the game-tying field goal to force overtime and fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, but CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm still projects Ole Miss in the first ever College Football Playoff.

Palm has the Rebels playing the Alabama Crimson Tide in one of the two semifinals, meaning he has the Rebels getting past the Auburn Tigers next week and defeating the current No. 1 team in the top 25, the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Egg Bowl in the regular season finale.

His projection of Alabama in would mean he has the Crimson Tide beating Mississippi State and Auburn in the Iron Bowl in their regular season finale. Ole Miss holds the tiebreaker so they would go to the SEC Championship Game, where Palm naturally has them winning against the opponent from the east.

Here is Palm’s projection for the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl.

Palm also has the Florida State Seminoles taking on the Michigan State Spartans in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1

The championship game will be played Jan. 12 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. Who do you think will be playing in the title game? Let us know in the comments section below.
