Week after week, Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin is making a pretty clear case for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and on Sunday in the team’s game with the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, he might have made his biggest statement yet.
With the game all knotted up at six in the second half, the Panthers were backed up in their own endzone. Against one of the best defenses in the NFL, this usually spells nothing but doom.
Well, that’s not really the case when you have Cam Newton and the dynamic Benjamin on your offense.
Watch in the video below as Newton drops back into the endzone and launches a bomb over 50 yards down the field. Not only does the 6-6 Benjamin come down with the ball, but he came down with it while being covered by two of the best defensive backs in the league, Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas.
It’s one thing to come down with a crazy catch, we see that virtually every week. But to come down with a catch like that while Sherman and Thomas are draped over you, well not that’s on a whole other level.
Kelvin Benjamin is something special.
