Los Angeles Kings are getting scary good, but might have to play without Anze Kopitar for a bit

The NHL hasn’t seen a true dynasty since the Edmonton Oilers of the 1980’s were eventually dismantled, but it’s quite possible that the Los Angeles Kings have settled in for a long reign over the North American hockey kingdom.

The team has now advanced to six straight victories after starting the season slow; they haven’t lost a game since falling to the Arizona Coyotes in overtime in the second game of the season. They now sit at 6-1-1 for the season, which is their best record since 1991 (the team went 5-0-1 over a six-game stretch in that year).

The team’s victory was bittersweet, though.

In addition to the Columbus Blue Jackets having to stretcher off forward Nick Foligno during the middle of the game, the Kings suffered a casualty of their own. Forward Anze Kopitar went down with an upper body injury, and it’s unknown as to when he will return.

While the team has been heavily relying on their ‘Seventies Line’ this season (one of the line’s members, Tanner Pearson, already has seven goals to start off the season), Kopitar will be a significant loss for the franchise if he is out for long. He’s a strong two-way forward, and contributed heavily to the team’s success during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
