Robert Streb earned his first PGA Tour victory Sunday at the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island’s Seaside Course in St. Simons Island, Ga.

PGA Tour player Robert Streb earned his first PGA Tour victory Sunday at the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island’s Seaside Course in Georgia in a three-way playoff after he carded a 7-under par 63 in his final round.

Streb rallied from a 5-shot deficit in the final round He waited 90 minutes to see if anyone could catch him, and then outlasted Will MacKenzie and Brendon de Jonge in the playoff at Sea Island.

Streb felt the pressure in his final two putts. On the first playoff hole at No. 18, Streb ran his 35-foot birdie putt about 4 feet by the hole and had to make that one to stay alive. MacKenzie was eliminated with a bogey from the bunker.

De Jonge hit safely on the green at the par-3 17th, and Streb followed with an 8-iron that covered the flag and plopped down about 4 feet behind the cup. Streb was the first to finish at 14-under 266, and it held up for the second playoff in the McGladrey Classic.

Robert Streb’s previous best score on the PGA Tour was a 65, and he beat that by two strokes in a great victory on Sunday earning him not just 500 FedEx Cup points, but also the No. 1 spot in the FedEx Cup standings in the early PGA Tour as well as a free berth to the 2015 Masters tournament, the first and most notable PGA Tour major tournament in April, and also the Players Championship in March and the 2015 PGA Championship, the fourth of the PGA Tour majors in August.

While many of the tour’s best stars don’t play in the beginning tournaments of the PGA Tour season, they mean a lot to the guys who are usually not competing in the majors, and now Streb will be given a free chance to compete in three of the PGA Tour’s best tournaments and opens the door to many possibilities for the 27-year-old Oklahoma native.

Next week, the tour will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the CIMB classic.
