Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott took a shot at Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard on Monday.

With the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets set to open their respective seasons against one another, there has unsurprisingly been a lot of talk about Rockets center Dwight Howard’s brief time on the Lakers in the buildup to the contest.

Howard played for the Lakers during the 2012-13 season, but left to sign with the Rockets in free agency after a disappointing season in Los Angeles and reported issues with Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

Lakers coach Byron Scott was asked about Kobe and Howard’s time together and threw in a little dig at the Rockets center.

From Scott’s perspective, making a comment like this makes a lot of sense. He’s stroking the ego of his best player and taking a shot at someone his best player clearly doesn’t get along with.

Also, Scott will likely find many agreeing with his assessment on Dwight Howard. There are many believe that the center’s fun personality holds him back.

While this writer finds that belief about Howard unfair, the fact of the matter is that he will likely have to win an NBA championship before that knock on him goes away.

For now, Scott and others will continue with their shots at him.

Howard averaged 18.3 points and 12.2 rebounds per game this past season.
