The Miami Hurricanes aren’t flooded with talented players at the skilled positions as they used to be, but very few will dispute the fact that they have one of the best running backs in the country in junior Duke Johnson, who is eligible to leave for the NFL following this season.
But for those that are looking for a decision on that anytime soon, don’t hold your breath for the next few weeks.
Johnson recently told the Sun-Sentinel that he will not be making a decision on whether or not to head off to the NFL to start collecting paychecks until after this season is over, at which time he’ll sit down with his mother, Cassandra, and weigh his options.
“Cassandra, it’s all on Cassandra,” said Johnson with a smile. “That’s a decision we have to make, majority her. I have some say-so in my decision, but for the most part, it’s her. She wants to see me get my degree. She wants to see me be successful after football.
“You can always come back, but it’s something…we would have to sit down and really look at it at the end of the season.”
Miami is 5-3 on the season and are coming off a huge 30-6 win over Virginia Tech last Thursday night in which Johnson did most of the damage, rushing the ball 29 times for 249 yards and a touchdown. On the season Johnson has tallied 1,036 yards and seven touchdowns through the eight games the team has played.
