The Toronto Raptors enjoyed a fantastic 2013-2014 season. After dealing forward Rudy Gay to the
, the Raptors turned their season around. They finished 48-34 and won the Atlantic Division. They earned the third seed in the Eastern Conference, returning to the playoffs for the first time since Chris Bosh left town for the
.
The Raptors and Brooklyn Nets went to game 7 of the first round series but the Nets held on for a 104-103 to take the series.
In the offseason, the Raptors decided to keep their team intact, most notably bringing back point guard Kyle Lowry on a four-year, $48 million deal. The Raptors are the favorite in the Atlantic Division once again but they clearly aren’t NBA title contenders. In order to do that, they need an upgrade at power forward. Names like Paul Millsap, Taj Gibson and Greg Monroe have come up in connection with the Raptors but those options don’t seem realistic.
Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders doesn’t believe the Raptors could get any kind of impact player without dealing Terrence Ross.
“I don’t think any of those guys can be had in trade,” Kyler writes. “Atlanta wants Millsap long-term. Gibson is a core piece and Monroe has the ability to veto a trade because he picked up his qualifying offer.”
“If any of those teams were to seriously entertain something, it’s likely costing you first round draft picks and guys like Terrence Ross.”
This isn’t the first time Terrence Ross has been at the center of trade rumors and if they do want to land a high quality better, they’d certainly have to part with him.
Terrence Ross averaged 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 42.3% from the field, 39.5% from beyond the arc and 83.7% from the free throw line last season.
