The Washington Redskins head to Texas to take on the Dallas Cowboys, who are red hot and come into the game with a league best 6-1 record. The Redskins have been battling through quarterback injuries all season long.

Starter Robert Griffin III has been out since week two with a dislocated ankle. Back up Kirk Cousins came in and had been filling in for Griffin, a player some thought was talented enough to start over Griffin, but in Week 7 the Redskins pulled the plug on him and turned to third string quarterback Colt McCoy.

There was some talk that Griffin could be returning in the Monday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys, just an hour or so away from Waco, Texas, where Griffin won a Heisman Trophy while playing for Baylor.

That won’t be the case though, the Redskins will keep McCoy under center.

From NFL.com:

"NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported Monday morning that Griffin won’t play against the Cowboys, according to a Redskins source. Colt McCoy will start as expected."

The story line is still there though, Colt McCoy played his college football with the Texas Longhorns.

Griffin can’t be rushed back with his string of injuries in his NFL career, they need a healthy Griffin for the future and not just this season. The Redskins have a bye week in Week 10, so Week 11 seems like a reasonable target date for a return.
