LSU has been fined $5,000 for rushing the field in celebration after the Tigers victory over SEC west rival Ole Miss on Saturday night
The LSU Tigers defeated the Ole Miss Rebels by the score of 10-7 to pick up their biggest SEC win of the year as they ran for 264 yards, including 114 from freshman phenom Leonard Fournette as the Tigers knocked off one of their rivals from the ranks of the unbeatens.

After a series of failures cost Ole Miss in the final seconds of the game and LSU picked off a Bo Wallace pass to end the game, the LSU faithful at Tiger Stadium ran onto the field in jubilation and a moment of unbridled enthusiasm as fans celebrated around players and head coach Les Miles. Unfortunately for LSU they were fined $5,000 for violating the league’s access to competition area policy.
In other words they were fined for having too much fun.
"“While we understand the excitement and enthusiasm that are produced by a victory, it must be emphasized that significant risk of injury for student-athletes and fans alike can result from incidents such as these,” said SEC commissioner Mike Slive, via CBS Sports."
This is the first time LSU has been fined for violation of this rule that has been in place for 10 years. If LSU is fined again for this offense it rises to $25,000 and if it happens a third time it doubles to $50,000.
If LSU is able to knock off Alabama after their bye week on Nov. 8, something tells me they university will have to cut a check for $25,000. In other words, money well spent.
Perhaps they can take a page out of the book of Ole Miss who had fans help pay the fine and for damage to the field after they tore down the goal posts in their win earlier this month over Alabama.
