Doug Martin is on the trading block in Tampa Bay and the San Diego Chargers are a team that may take a chance on trying to acquire him.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem to have everyone on their trade block today as the NFL Trade Deadline rapidly approaches. But so far there have been no deals and there doesn’t look to be any in the works for a last second swap.

One team that could change that is the San Diego Chargers. Down a slew of running backs this season, the Chargers seem to be a prime candidate to take a trade for Doug Martin. Jason La Canfora from CBSSports.com notes that the Buccaneers could strike a deal with the San Diego Chargers or New England Patriots if they come calling about Doug Martin.

"If someone wants to take on Doug Martin and try to revitalize him, let them (Chargers have lost a bunch of running backs; Pats as well) and take a mid-round pick if you can get it since they can’t wait to play Charles Sims when he comes off IR-Designated to Return, anyway."

That’s all speculation but it’s something that makes a lot of sense. NFL trades just aren’t what they are in other sports, as there’s no prospect to pick from the farm system to throw in a deal and the trade value of active roster players isn’t very high. The return on Martin hasn’t been rumored as being very high and that is something that could derail trade talks from the Buccaneers end of things.

Either way, the trade market is there but the interest in it doesn’t seem to be very high for another straight year.
