The Houston Rockets wanted to land a third star to team with center Dwight Howard and guard James Harden this offseason but Carmelo Anthony decided to re-sign with the
and Chris Bosh stuck with the
. They wound up agreeing to a deal with swingman Trevor Ariza but also lost forward Chandler Parsons to the rival
.
That’s why the Rockets will likely pursue another star. Names like Boston Celtics‘ point guard Rajon Rondo and Detroit Pistons‘ big man Greg Monroe have been tossed about but another All-Star who may be on the block – Atlanta Hawks‘ big man Al Horford.
Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders believes Horford would be a good fit with the Houston Rockets.
"A team could probably get a higher lottery pick for Horford, although the problem is a contender that could use him probably doesn’t have such a pick available. Horford would be an absolutely awesome fit in Houston though, where he could stretch the floor with his jump shooting around Howard and Harden while helping the Rockets’ defensive woes. If the Hawks start to crater this year (hard to imagine if Horford stays healthy though) or new ownership wants to rebuild, and the Pelicans disappoint a bit, the Rockets could offer a package centered around that Pelicans pick and T. Jones. MAYBE that gets it done if it’s looking like that Pelicans pick is pretty high."
Of course, there is no reason for the Hawks to trade Horford, who has a very reasonable contract but he would be an excellent fit in Houston.
Al Horford averaged 18.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 56.7% from the field, 36.4% from beyond the arc and 68.2% from the charity stripe.
