The Philadelphia 76ers have waived newly-acquired point guard Marquis Teague and Elliot Williams, as their NBA roster is now at 15.

The Philadephia 76ers traded for a guaranteed contract on October 24, even though point guard Marquis Teague, younger brother of Jeff Teague, is an NBA player in name only, but guaranteed money is guaranteed money, and not something the 76ers are fond of lately in their rebuilding plan. But it looks like any hope Philly fans might have had in the 76ers to be using Teague as a reclamation project is as silly as the hope the team won’t draft an injured player:

In fairness to the 76ers, they have no delusions regarding their fortunes this season, and the injured players they’ve been drafting are some of the most intriguing talents in the league (Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid). And by most accounts, Marquis Teague has been a

disaster

of a player, even for a late first-round pick, so if 76ers GM Sam Hinkie is cool with eating the cash on Teague’s salary for a 2019 second-round pick (which Philly picked up in the trade when Teague was acquired), then hey, more power to him and the organization.

That said, it’s getting really  hard not to outright mock what the 76ers are doing to their fans, as this team looks really bad on paper. That’s the point, but unfortunately they still have to lose the games to get the picks. Hopefully Hinkie’s plan works out for the team, or he’s at least able to package his billions of second-round picks into useful NBA talent for the 76ers.
