Coming into the 2014 college football season there was a tight competition to take over for Johnny Manziel under center at Texas A&M between sophomore Kenny Hill and true freshman Kyle Allen, a competition that was ultimately won by Hill.
Well fast forward nine weeks later and there is once again uncertainty as to who the Texas A&M starting quarterback is, and the battle has been re-opened, according to offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.
“We opened it back up, and we’ve had some good experiences throughout last week in live-scrimmage situations and going through scripted plays as well, challenging them in different situations,” said offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, according to Texags.com. “It’s wide open today, and we’ll split the reps, and tomorrow, then we should have a starter declared and have them take the reps in that Thursday practice.”
To begin the season, Hill obliterated a South Carolina defense that we have come to find is is not all that good. His most recent struggle came in the 59-0 blowout loss to Alabama, where he threw for just 138 yards and no touchdowns.
On the season this year, the freshman Allen has tossed for 264 yards and three touchdowns with two picks.
