Ben Roethlisberger was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after he set Pittsburgh Steelers franchise records for completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns.
In the least surprising bit of NFL news this week, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after he tallied 522 passing yards and six touchdowns in a 51-34 win over the Indianapolis Colts. He almost set some NFL records in the process, but he just fell short of Norm Van Brocklin’s league record of 554 passing yards.

Had the Steelers led 51-44 near the game’s end instead of 51-34, Ben may very well have set every major NFL passing records as he seemingly passed at will. The team ran the ball late to secure the lead, thus holding Ben back from those distinctions. He also set a team record for completions with 40 in an explosion few could have predicted from the Steelers.
In a back-and-forth affair against Andrew Luck and the Colts, Roethlisberger simply couldn’t be stopped. He threw all over the field, finding all of his major receivers for big gains and touchdowns in a game where the Steelers jumped out to a big early lead. The defense gave some of it back to Luck, then took more points once more as the teams produced nearly 1,000 combined yards of offense.
The Steelers hope to find more of the same on offense when they host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football in Week 9 action.
