Mark Letestu becomes latest addition to the mile-long injury reserve list for the Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets will play the Toronto Maple Leafs in two days, as they host the Atlantic Division franchise on Friday at home in Columbus.

While home games are usually advantageous, though, the Blue Jackets are scrambling… simply to find enough roster players to play the game. They are down a staggering nine roster regulars, with Mark Letestu joining the list Tuesday night.

Letestu was announced as joining the team’s injured reserve on Wednesday morning, when the team revealed that he had pulled a groin during a shift in the team’s game against the Ottawa Senators. In addition to Letestu, that game cost the team Artem Anisimov (concussion), and James Wisniewski (broken finger)- and another loss. The Senators triumphed 5-2 over the broken Metropolitan Division franchise.

While the Columbus Dispatch poked some fun at the team earlier in the day for all the injuries they have been suffering, the fact that they are now down nine men- so early in the season, as well- could hint at a bigger problem.

There are a number of factors that could contribute to a team being the most injured in the NHL, from improper team nutrition to something incorrect with the team’s training. Columbus should probably investigate this, because half a roster out for injury isn’t bad luck- it’s downright ominous.
