The Chicago Cubs have reportedly come to terms on a deal with Joe Maddon, but the team is denying those reports.
In the hours leading up to Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night, a report surfaced with news that will shake up the Major League Baseball landscape: Joe Maddon had reportedly come to terms on a deal to be the next manager of the Chicago Cubs.

Maddon just left the Tampa Bay Rays within the couple weeks. Between that hasty timetable to a new job and the timing in terms of the World Series, many folks around the league raised their eyebrows at the report that Maddon and the Cubs already had a deal.
Well, the deal isn’t official yet, and the Cubs were quick to deny the report.
Joe Maddon is talking to the #Cubs and other teams, agent Alan Nero says, but Nero and the Cubs say that no deal is done. At least not yet.

If nothing else, there are some additional steps that need to be taken before this move can be made. Consider, for example, the fact that Rick Renteria is still the manager of the Cubs. Presumably the organization will do something with his position before agreeing to terms with Maddon.
Whatever the case may be, it seems like Maddon is headed to Chicago. How he gets there might be messy, however, and this denial from the Cubs falls in line with that fact.
