Dallas fans haven’t gotten to see much out of last year’s breakout star, Val Nichushkin.

The 19-year-old sensation from Chelyabinsk, Russia, has been out since the second game of the season with what was ruled a hip/groin injury. It was expected that he wouldn’t be able to return for a couple weeks at the very least; disappointing, as the Stars were hoping for big things from the forward this year.
One of his replacements, though, has been sent back down to the AHL; Wednesday morning, the Stars announced that Curtis McKenzie- last year’s AHL Rookie of the Year- had been reassigned to the Texas Stars in Cedar Park, Texas. This begs the question- does this mean the Stars will see a healthy Nichushkin back in the lineup sooner rather than later?
Nichushkin had no shortage of scorepower last season, but his defensive play left something to be greatly desired. The team may have enough scorepower to overlook that, though. Since Nichushkin started skating in practice with the team on Monday, it’s possible that he could be back on one of the team’s top three lines by Halloween.
