Daniel Sturridge: Injuries May Be Hereditary

Liverpool‘s Daniel Sturridge claims his injuries may be hereditary

Daniel Sturridge comes from a long line of professional soccer players. Unfortunately, he also comes from a long line of injuries- one that hasn’t ended with his own injury-free career.

The striker has yet to play for Liverpool, since going down with lower body muscle injuries in early September. He claims this is a hereditary issue, and suggests that his family agrees with him.

In an article from the Guardian, Sturridge discusses the fact that it may be his Carribean ancestry, and the speed that accompanies it, that makes him more susceptible to muscle injuries. It’s a valid observation- he offers the explanation that when moving as fast as he is naturally inclined to, he’s more likely to experience fast muscle twitches. Go down on your leg while experiencing a twitch, and you’re injured before you even know it. There’s very little a player can do to prevent it, although Sturridge insists that he tries his best.

“I play my game as best I can, but I’ve been unfortunate this season,” he told talkSPORT.

The striker isn’t expected back in the game until at least November 8th, when his team will face off against Chelsea. Hopefully, he will return strong enough to bring some offensive scorepower to his team, alongside Italian teammate Mario Balotelli. The two could work extremely well together once Sturridge makes a return, especially since Balotelli finally ended a lengthy drought with no goals.
