San Francisco Giants’ ace Madison Bumgarner has staked a significant claim to his place in postseason history. That is the case for a guy who is just 25 years old but has already appeared three postseasons. His World Series numbers are incredible, and now his body of work in the 2014 playoffs has him in the record books.
Besides all of the shutout innings he has thrown, Bumgarner now has a record that has to do with volume to his name.
Bumgarner continued to add to that record by pitching well in Game 7, as well.
One caveat must be noted, of course: Bumgarner pitched a complete game in the Wild Card Game. Many pitchers in history did not have the chance to pitch in that extra game prior to its existence. Then again, there were certain pitchers who would start like every game of the series, guys in Christy Mathewson.
Comparing eras is tricky, but suffice it to say that Bumgarner is among the all-time best in playoff baseball.
