The Oakland Raiders have signed free-agent safety Larry Asante to an open spot on their active roster after Usama Young was placed on injured reserve.
The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent safety Larry Asante on Wednesday, filling a roster spot they opened on Tuesday when they waived linebacker Bojay Filimoeatu.
Filimoeatu isn’t going far, however—he was added to the practice squad Wednesday.

The winless Raiders had a need in the secondary after starting safety Usama Young was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday with an ankle injury. Oakland already had placed defensive backs Tyvon Branch and Taiwan Jones in injured reserve.
Asante was with the Raiders in training camp, notching eight tackles in three preseason games, but he was waived at the end of camp.
Asante, 26, was a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns out of Nebraska in 2010, but was one of the final cuts by the Browns. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers off the Browns’ practice squad and played in the final two games of the 2010 season and spent 2011 with the Bucs.
He did not play in 2012, but spent the 2013 season with the Indianapolis Colts.
In 17 NFL games, Asante has 14 tackles, one interception, one pass defensed and one forced fumble.
Filimoeatu, 24, an undrafted free agent out of Utah State, was active for five games with the Raiders and had five tackles.
